Do I need an SSL Certificate for my website?

“SSL” stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It’s a network-level security protocol where customers can safely surf, purchase products or services and share personal information.

Your website requires an SSL certificate when requesting personal and sensitive information. Websites without an SSL certificate will remain http, while sites with encryption will display https in the user’s browser. Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers warn you that non-https websites are unsafe.

Suppose you are launching an eCommerce website. You have registered an appropriate domain name and listed your products and your website looks great. But your customers will always check whether your website is protected with an SSL certificate. Because Google’s Chrome (other browsers too) browser displays an “Not Secure” warning next to the website in the address bar if the website is not protected by an SSL certificate. A secure session is established through a “hands-on” process of switching back and forth between the web browser and web server and that takes place behind the scenes without disrupting the shopping or browsing experience.

The SSL certificate helps protect your website data; SSL certificates are usually quite expensive. If you’ve just started a blog or created a DIY website, fortunately, there are a number of ways to get a low-cost SSL Certificate to lower the overall cost of your website.
